Testing Rules

Travel News: The new test rules for travelling

by Inside Lifestyle Team

Vaccinated Travellers

From Sunday 9 January 2022, double jabbed travellers are no longer required to take a PCR test on or before day two of their return to England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you can now book and pay for a cheaper lateral flow test to be taken on or before day two, (you need to book and pay for a test from one of the government-approved providers, NHS Test and Trace tests won’t be accepted for international travel.) If the result is negative, you can continue as normal, if positive you must follow standard self-isolation rules. Any travelers returning from red-list countries must quarantine in a goverment approved hotel for 10 days.

Unvaccinated Travellers

Rules for unvaccinated travellers that are returning to England, Wales and Northern Ireland from non-red list countries remain the same. You must take a pre-departure test before flying back into the country. You must book and pay for a PCR test to be taken on or before day two of their return, and on day eight. You must isolate for 10 days unless they pay for an extra Test to Release to be taken on day five, if the result is negative, you can then end your quarantine period early.
