Welcome to Brasserie of Light

We spent the afternoon at this stunning London hotspot, it really is the chicest restaurant in Selfridges. The venue dazzles diners with Art Deco interiors, an eclectic menu and a giant statue by Damien Hirst.

Selfridges’ Brasserie of Light opened in late 2018 and wow-d shoppers with its ’contemporary, elegant and artistic’ style. The venue continues to be a firm favourite amongst the London crowd, known for it’s extravagant interior and top tier service. If you take the entrance from Duke Street, you can understand why it’s considered an extravagant affair, with the resident doorman in a top hat and coat tails ready to welcome you inside. Follow the mirror covered walls through the entrance, and into the restaurant, an impressive space with serious Art Deco styling, from the high ceilings and mirrored everything, to the mustard yellow banquettes and bar stools. The star of the show though, is Damien Hirst’s largest London artwork, the 24ft crystal encrusted Pegasus set above the gleaming tables below.

The buzzing atmosphere..

Brasserie of Light definetly pulls out all the stops to ensure even the most discerning of guests leave feeling they’ve had a special experience – and we’d say the owners know a thing or two about creating successful venues, given that the owners Richard Caring’s Caprice Holdings are responsible for The Ivy Collection and Sexy Fish. The buzzing atmosphere is charming, and even though it gets rather busy, still manages to feel like you have enough privacy at your table (unless your a table of two). Aside from the stunning dining area, the venue also boasts an impressive mirrored bar (perfect for an elegant cocktail or two), while the flamboyant character continues into the loos, with a bold combo of marble and yep, more mirroring. It’s black for the boys and dusty pink for the girls, serving as the perfect insta op.

An extensive all day menu..

It has to be said that our lunch at Brasserie of Light was no less impressive than the surroundings. The menu is a good mash up of British and International dishes, all of which have certainly been given a tweak or two to emulate the decadent experience. The extensive all day menu offers something to satisfy everyone, from the white onion soup (tried, tested and delicious), to the Milanese Chicken and Miso Black Cod. The deserts are a real spectacle, creatively ‘designed’ to ensure maximum content potential. Although a hard choice, we opted for the galactic themed ’Orbit’ desert, a planet shaped chocolate dome, encasing chocolate mousse and ice cream on a bed of milk foam. We can confirm it was as yummy as it was beautiful! From the extensive alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktail list to the brasserie style all day menu, this venue really does cater to everyone, and is surprisingly reasonably priced given its flamboyant vibe. A special dining experience that doesn’t break the bank!
